Ethan is a rapid early responder!! Only 1% blasts in the bone marrow at the end of one week of treatment. To God be the glory! Note added 2/15: I’ve realized belatedly that he has met the technical qualifications of being in remission. I really love that word!

Things are quiet and good. Ethan got another full round of chemo on Thursday and his response was much more manageable this time. Maybe a little worn out but no vomiting and no nausea. On the other hand the Prednisone has definitely kicked in. It feels like he is a hobbit from LOTR “I want second breakfast. What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper?” I’m glad he has the appetite of a teenager because we would be grateful for a buffer on his weight. In cancer land if he loses more than 10% of his starting weight they require an NG tube which I am adamantly opposed to. So for now, I’m happy to fatten him up like the witch in Hansel & Gretel. What a wonderful, brilliant, marvelous, fantastic feeling to be lounging on our very own couch… snacking on blueberries… playing Lego Star Wars on the Playstation. These are simple things I won’t be able to take for granted for a very long time. This morning the medical student following our case came in and gave me a chart of Ethan’s blast count and told me that his most recent labs showed it was at ZERO. I positively burst from the pure joy I felt! To have prayed so extremely specifically for this and to be able to give God the glory in our victory was a feeling beyond description.
